Short-term result of thoracoscopic sympathectomy is excellent. A majority of patients enjoy dry and warm hands immediately after surgery. The results of thoracoscopic sympathectomy reported in recent literatures indicate excellent improvement (98%) with minimal side effects. As Table 1 indicates, only 2% (37 patients out of 1881) reported no beneficial effects of surgery. Long-term improvements reported by Zacherl show a 98% relief rate of all patients after a 16 years follow-up period.
Dr. Baumgartner has operated on more than 1000 patients in the past years. The hands of greater than 99% of patients who completed the thoracoscopic sympathectomy procedure became dry and warm. Approximately 80% of our patients also reported dry soles of the feet after having surgery. This compares favorably with the information from Table 1.
